Your hi-hat operates normally when the clutch is engaged, release the pedal and the clutch rim will hit the Trip Arm, dropping the top cymbal. The cymbals have closed without the need to take any action. You dont need to keep your foot on the pedal. Step on the pedal and the clutch will re-engage and the hi-hats will operate normally again. Simply rotate the trip arm out of place if you do not want hands free operation.
